Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

Earlier this year, we learned about fractions, decimals and percentages. We knew about decimals and fractions from Year 4, however, we learned about percentages.

Per cent means 'per 100'. If 70 per cent of the population own a pet, this means that 70 out of every hundred people own a pet. The symbol % means 'per cent'.

Have a look at the video below to remind yourself about converting between fractions, decimals and percentages.

And now have a look at this grid - which two pairs match.

Let's do one together...
I know that 0.8 is a decimal and it means 8 tenths (remember your place value). It I then convert my fraction from tenths to hundredths, what do I need to do? You're right, I need to multiply the numerator and the denominator by 10. Which will give me … 80/100 which is equivalent to 80%!

The aim of this game is to match pairs of cards. Click on a card in the interactive game on the NRich website to turn it over. Then click on another one. If the two cards match, they will stay face-up. If the two cards do not match, they will return to being face-down. The game ends when all the cards have been matched in pairs.
